About this event

The industrial sector accounts for roughly 30% of global emissions and is one of the most difficult sectors to decarbonize. Sweden has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2045, and the EU Commission and the U.S. no later than 2050. To meet these targets, industry actors must reduce emissions quickly. This transition requires transformative pathways that involve completely new processes in many industries, as well as an overhaul of the value chains from basic materials to end products and services.

Join us for a conversation on industrial innovation and decarbonization in the EU and the U.S., with a focus on technical and policy pathways to achieve the industrial transition. Sweden holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union during the first half of 2023. This event is part of the Embassy’s EU Presidency diplomacy program and is hosted in conjunction with the opening of a new exhibition at House of Sweden, Pioneer the Possible: Accelerating the Green Transition, which showcases the green transition, from renewable energy to sustainable industries. One of Sweden’s priorities for its Presidency is to make Europe greener, working towards a decarbonized economy.

The event is organized by the Embassy of Sweden in partnership with the Sweden-U.S. Green Transition Initiative, Mistra Carbon Exit Research Program, and Resources for the Future.

About the Exhibition “Pioneer the Possible: Accelerating the Green Transition”

Sweden aims to be carbon neutral by 2045. That goal puts it on track to becoming the first country with a developed economy to reach net-zero carbon emissions. It’s now a nation at the forefront of the shift away from fossil fuels and greenhouse gases that's necessary to mitigate the looming climate crisis. Join Embassy of Sweden on March 22 in House of Sweden for the opening of the exhibit and get inspired by innovative Swedish companies, universities, and local municipalities that are leading the way in their respective fields.
